Professor Eddie Avelar is a fourth-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Carlos Machado, with over 22 years of experience on the mat. Renowned for his technical expertise and engaging teaching style, Professor Avelar specializes in gi-based techniques, particularly the “Broken Butterfly” series and the “Pro Guard” or “Butter Half” positions. These systems emphasize dynamic control and offensive strategies from butterfly and half guard positions.

He is over 54 and still an active sparring partner. He teaches hands-on: drilling, live demonstrations, and open dialogue, so students actually understand the art. As a Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association ambassador, he runs seminars and mentors students around the country.
